trust & safety

▸Is my data private?

Your contributions are published under a pen name that is never publicly linked to your account. The internal link exists solely for moderation and abuse prevention — it is restricted to admin tooling and never appears in public APIs, pages, or logs. The Psychedex app is being rebuilt: it will need no account, and the app itself will send none of your record anywhere.

▸Can law enforcement access my information?

The Psychedex app is being rebuilt: it will need no account, and the app itself will send none of your record anywhere. Contributions are published under your pen name, never your account identity.

To be precise: an internal link between pen names and accounts does exist, solely for moderation and abuse prevention. It is restricted to admin tooling and never appears in public APIs, pages, or logs.

▸Do you track me?

We use privacy-respecting error monitoring (Sentry) to catch bugs. We do not use analytics trackers, advertising pixels, or fingerprinting. We do not sell data to third parties. There is no advertising on this site.

▸Why should I trust this site?

Psychedex is a nonprofit pursuing 501(c)(3) status. The content pipeline is transparent — every entry shows its sources, evidence metrics, and confidence tier. We neither condone nor condemn substance use. Our job is to document, not to judge.

content

▸Is the information accurate?

Every entry is cross-referenced against PubMed, PsychonautWiki, TripSit, and community reports. Our editorial standard requires a minimum of two independent citations for dosage and interaction data. Evidence metrics are displayed alongside every data value so you can assess trustworthiness yourself.

▸Who writes the entries?

AI generates initial drafts from published research and structured data sources. Human editors review every draft before publication. No entry reaches users without human approval.

Humans approve every entry.
▸What are evidence metrics?

Every data value shows its provenance: the kind of evidence behind it, the sources that back it, and a confidence tier — high, medium, or low, shown on the value as Strong, Moderate, or Weak evidence, and as No provenance while a value is still ungraded. Each source carries its own quality tier: strong (peer-reviewed), moderate (observational), weak (case report or expert opinion), or insufficient (could not be verified). Every substance has an Evidence page collecting all of it field by field, with the version history behind each value.

▸How do I report an error?

Every substance page has a “suggest a correction” link. Corrections that include citations are prioritized. You can also email contact@psychedex.org.

accounts & contributing

▸Do I need an account to use Psychedex?

No. All substance data, dosage tables, interaction warnings, effects, harm reduction guides, and emergency information are free and accessible without any account. An account is only needed for the personal tools — bookmarks, annotations, tolerance tracker — which are free as well.

▸Can I contribute anonymously?

Pseudonymously, not anonymously: your experience reports and data submissions are attributed to a pen name with no public link to your identity, whereas true anonymity would mean no account at all — contributing requires one, and the account connection is retained internally for moderation only.

▸What sign-in methods do you support?

Accounts are not open yet. When they are: email magic link (most private — use a burner email if you prefer), Discord, and Google. Nothing on the site needs an account to read.

▸Does Psychedex cost anything?

No. The encyclopedia is free, and so are the personal tools built on it — tolerance tracker, bookmarks, annotations, and PDF export. The tools need a free account; there is no payment step anywhere on the site. Supporting Psychedex is a donation, not a feature unlock. A paid tier for developers using the API is planned, and its pricing is set when the API launches. Safety information is never paywalled.

See support page for full details.

about the project

▸Who runs this?

Psychedex is maintained by a solo developer with AI assistance and a small volunteer moderation team. It is a parallel fresh start from PsychonautWiki.org (~1M monthly visitors), rebuilt from scratch with modern infrastructure and higher evidence standards.

▸How is it funded?

Donations and grants. Psychedex is a nonprofit pursuing 501(c)(3) status — donations are not tax-deductible unless and until the IRS grants determination. There is no advertising and no data monetization. See our support page for the full breakdown.

▸Is this open access?

Yes. All substance data, effects, and safety information is free to access — there is no paywall on safety-critical content. The codebase itself is not yet public; we plan to open source it after launch. Community contributions to the content are welcomed — see our contribute page for how to get involved.

▸Is this legal?

Our position is that publishing factual harm reduction information is lawful in the jurisdictions we operate from. Psychedex does not provide synthesis instructions, sourcing information, or facilitate transactions — we operate as an educational resource, similar to a pharmacology textbook or medical reference. Laws differ by jurisdiction, and you are responsible for knowing the laws where you live.

▸What happens if the site goes down?

The Psychedex app is being rebuilt: it will need no account, and the app itself will send none of your record anywhere. We are committed to releasing the published dataset under CC BY 4.0 and open sourcing the code if operations cease.
